KAY-FILL is a strong, durable, lightweight, loadbearing expanded polystyrene product manufactured and supplied in rectangular shaped block form to be used as permanent landfill in roads, embankments or any other similar use and can be laid over low bearing soils such as peat, silt, soft clay, etc., as part of any landscaping design.
KAY-FILL makes substantial savings in weight, labour and machinery costs and time compared with the uneconomical, time-consuming and laborious alternative of sourcing, transporting, tipping and forming soil as well as piling and mechanical compaction.
KAY-FILL provides immediate stability and reduces settlement in sloping or slip-risk situations.
NOTE: Apart from many satisfactory earth works and landscaping projects already completed in the UK, expanded polystyrene landfill has been tried, tested and proved over many more applications and years in Scandinavia, Western Europe, South East Asia and North America where it has rapidly become standard
practice.
DENSITIES:
KAY-FILL is available in various densities and grades to suit design specifications for compressive strength :
criteria or other requirements.

NOTE: FLAME RETARDANT GRADE 'E' IS AVAILABLE ON REQUEST
DIMENSIONS:
Manufactured in rectangular shaped units 2440mm x 1220mm x 610 or 710mm depending on grade required.
N.B. Non-standard sizes can be supplied though KAY-FILL is very easy to cut or shape on site with ordinary hand tools or hot wire cutters.
STANDARDS:
KAY-FILL is available in a range of grades including SD, HD and EHD to BS 3837:Pt 1 and is manufactured under a QA scheme to BS 9001.
INSTALLATION:
A levelling course of up to 100mm compacted sand should be formed with KAY-FILL laid flat to a half (1/2)
bond with no continuous vertical joints. A connector may be used to tie layers together.
When used in an embankment an edge profile not steeper than 2:1 height to width ratio is recommended and a minimum cover of 250mm is required over KAY-FILL.
In road construction a concrete capping should be constructed to protect against spillage once KAY-FILL has been installed.
CHEMICAL CONTACT:
KAY-FILL effectively resists inorganic acids and alkalis. However, it must be protected from contact with organic solvents such as petrol and diesel oil.

Noise Bunds & Landscaping
Kay-Metzeler offers a fast cost effective method of building noise bunds to eliminate sound transfer by means of erecting a barrier between road traffic noise and housing
Kay-Metzeler when used in landscaping, with its high strength-to-weight ratio, can elevate the pressures on underlying structures and services in both soft and hard landscaping
Road & Rail Embankments
With its high strength-to-weight ratio and ability to withstand mechanical loads, Kay-Metzeler can assist in reducing the pressure on soils when taking into account the high unacceptable loadings that can be present, whilst offering a proven economical alternative to piled construction.
Kay-Metzeler offers a cost effective lightweight solution that reduces the problem ground loading encountered when using traditional fill materials and reduces the likelihood of settlement.
Traditional fill materials can do take time to stability and be liable to settlement when used on railway embankments.
